Frequently asked questions
How does your pricing work?
For a decorated cake, the price usually starts at $6.75 per serving, ask us for other options if you’re on a budget
I’m on a budget, can you do anything for me?
Our prices reflect the amount we need to charge in order to stay in business. We are happy to work with you on methods to reduce the cost, maybe making a smaller cake for display and adding cupcakes or a sheet cake to serve to reduce costs, or use a rustic style of frosting to reduce the price, but we use the best ingredients and bake from scratch, meaning we’re not able to charge as little as other bakeries who use mixes and shortening in their frosting.
Do you charge a different price for buttercream or fondant?
We do usually charge a little more for fondant because of the additional time and ingredients
What is your minimum order?
Our minimum order is $200
Do you charge for delivery?
Yes, our delivery charge starts at $30 for small cakes locally, and goes up from there. We charge a delivery, setup and stand rental for cupcakes/desserts if you’d like a cupcake tower or to use our stands for displaying desserts. We are happy for you to pick up from our bakery in Carmel Mountain at a mutually convenient time, but we don’t recommend that for cakes bigger than 2 tiers.
How far ahead do I need to book?
To secure your date you will need to either give a 50% deposit if your order is over $200 or the full amount. Your date isn’t considered reserved until we receive your deposit/payment. You must be paid in full at least 7 days before your event. We generally recommend getting in touch at least 2-3 weeks before your event. For weddings and larger events requiring delivery, we would recommend getting in touch at least 1-3 months ahead.
How do you take payment?
We are happy to take a credit card, with an invoice that you can click through and pay online, or over the phone. Most of our orders are booked through Honeybook. We also take cash and checks, but we do need the check a minimum of 3 weeks before your event.
Do you make ‘dummy’ cakes/tiers?
We are happy to make your cake more grand by adding fake tiers (made from styrofoam instead of cake), or a fake cake with just one real tier for cutting. We charge about half the price of a real cake, so if you are serving a fake cake plus sheet cakes it will still be more expensive than real cake. This is a great option for very hot weather. We only offer this option for fondant designs.
Do you make sheet cakes?
Yes, we only charge $4 per serving of undecorated frosted sheet cake; we do a half sheet cake to serve 50 for $200. If you are having a big wedding or event, this may be a way to cut costs a little.
Can we buy a small cake from you and then serve sheetcakes/cupcakes from the grocery store?
Our policy is that we don’t allow that. We work very hard to create delicious cakes, and we’d prefer you place your full order with us. We do understand if you have specialty desserts such as donuts, we are happy for our desserts to be served alongside them, we generally don’t set other bakeries desserts up.
Can I choose more than one flavor for my cake?
Of course! We usually recommend and can include 2 flavors for a 2-tier cake or more, that way the guests are all happy! We don’t recommend more as the guests may not even notice all the different flavors. We may charge a little extra for 3 flavors or more.
Do you have a storefront?
No, we have a bakery in Carmel Mountain Ranch, we are by appointment only, and only bake to order. This gives us a great advantage to the home bakers, as we are able to make sumptuous creams, mousses and curds to make our cakes extra delicious!
How do tasting appointments work?
We are happy to accommodate up to 4 people, we’ll give you a taste of several of the flavors we are baking that week to mix and match along with fillings and frostings and the $40 fee will be put towards the cost of your cake when you book with us, provided the cake is $400 or more. Tasting appointments are generally only held on Saturdays between 10-3pm. Alternatively, we are happy to make up a sample pack for you to take away and taste at your leisure any time Thursday-Saturday for $25, that will count towards the cost of an order of $400 or more.
Are children allowed at the bakery?
While supervised children are welcome and allowed at the bakery, it is not the most kid friendly environment, so we suggest if you’re coming for a consult and you have the option to have someone take care of them, that would be your best bet. This is not always the case, and we understand that and will do our best to make your consult short and sweet and fun!
What are your opening hours?
We are generally at the bakery Tues-Fri 8-3.45pm and Saturdays 10-2pm, we are closed on Sunday and Monday. If we have arranged for you to pick up your cake at a certain time, and we are closed, we do have a $25 per 15 minute fee for late pickups to cover paying our staff for the additional time and inconvenience
Do you make wedding cakes for same-sex couples?
Of course we do!
